Joining from the US as a 2003 1300 Rider on and off since 2005.

The old 2003 has a rattling SMC and am interested in this stronger spring I hear is working well on your side of the pond.

And here is my favorite video.

Hoi HouSTon, vanuit het Noord Hollandse Zaandam ook een hartelijk welkom.
Kan jij ook zo erg lachen om hoe Google Translate soms zinnen vertaalt :Biggrin?

I do have a question: What is the abbeviation for SMC? As you can read there is already some confusion.

[QUOTE = "Ieniemienie, post: 180031, member: 772"] Hi Houston, also a warm welcome from the North Holland Zaandam.
Also Can you laugh at how much Google Translate sometimes Translates phrases: Biggrin?

I do have a question: What is the abbeviation for SMC? As you can read there is already some confusion. [/ QUOTE]

Sorry about that.

SMC stands for Secondary Master Cylinder, as described on page 17-11 of the Service Manual.

It is this bloody little device on the left hand side front caliper That so many times causes the rear brake to lock up and put Pan riders in real danger. Have not heard of any getting killed yet, but then again, if there were casualties SMC, theywere not bootable to post on the forum about it either! Same problem with the SMC on the Gold Wing, but fixed the Honda Gold Wing's, not the Pan's ashes They are very much interested in selling more Gold Wings.

I live at sea level (somewhat safer than BELOW sea level When it is not hurricane season!). I can bleed the brake system so there is no air and no play in the SMC. But When riding into the Rocky Mountains, once over 2000m, whatever little air was left Expands enough for the SMC to have free play again. So much play, it rattles so loud That it sounds like it is going to destroy cars When riding on gravel roads for any length of time. And once back at sea level, the air in the brake system's compressed again to a volume small enough for the SMC not to rattle anymore!

A Pan EU rider posted on a US ST1300 forum That huh've've've had've been able to purchase a stronger master cylinder spring using this EU forum. Have been looking for something like that for a while, so we hope to be printable to put my hands on one or synthesis springs axis layout It seems it has tried by a few of you and works well.

Thank you.

Strange thing happening while posting on this forum ..... What is posted is different from what I write. For instance, I can add a word in a sentence, and in the preview window, the word is going to be in another location than where I Placed it in the sentence. I can try to edit as much as I want, the wrong placement of the word or misspelling stays the same, even if I try to go and edit after posting. Looks like it's better to write a message in Word for instance, and paste it in the forum only after it has all been fully edited! Wondering if it has happened to anybody else or there's something I need to set up for this not to happen?

No, didn't know. And we have a town in Texas called Nederland! We used to have "Amsterdam" not far from Houston, but it was essentially wiped out by the 1900 hurricane that devastated the island of Galveston (10,000 people lost their live) and never quite recovered.

As advised by the :good: people on st1100-1300.eu, I have sent a message to your ST Guru Uncle Nut, but have not seen a reply from him yet. But maybe it is because I have not found where to check Personal Messages on this great forum yet?

Is there a special location on the Forum for checking Messages, or is there a Pop Up that appears only when a message comes in?

Thank you for the guidance.
